Anders Antonsen and William Kryger Boe/Christian Faust Kjær have won silver medals at the TOYOTA Thailand Open 2025.
It’s been an amazing week in Bangkok for William Kryger Boe/Christian Faust Kjær, who had the best run of their careers with a silver medal at the Super 500 tournament.
The young Danish pair stunned top names throughout the event and made it all the way to the final, where they faced second seeds Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik from Malaysia. Boe/Kjær took the close opening game, 22-20, but the Malaysians bounced back, winning the second game 21-17 and carrying that momentum into the decider, winning it 21-12.
Kjær reflected on the moment: “We were so excited to be in the final. We’re happy with our performance this week, with a silver medal, it’s crazy.”
Still with the emotion of the match, he added: “As this match went on, we felt as there were some chances. We’re a bit disappointed right now that we didn’t manage to win the whole thing. When we get home, get a bit of rest, and think about this week, we’ll be extremely happy.”
Asked if the Super 500 final felt overwhelming, Boe was honest. “Yeah, I think it did. I was pretty nervous in the beginning and Christian was in the end of the second game. We played some good badminton, but it’s mental. You just have to be in more of these events and hopefully, one day, we’ll win a Super 500 or something bigger. We’re still motivated and hungry for more.”
In the men’s singles final, it was a clash of the tournament’s top two seeds – top seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn and second seed Anders Antonsen. With the home Thai crowd behind him, Vitidsarn took the opening game 21-16. Antonsen responded with a win in the second, winning 21-17, but the decider was all Vitidsarn, who closed the match 21-9 to claim the title.
Despite losing, Antonsen was proud of his week. “It means a lot. This was one hell of a match. Both of us, fighting the best we have learned. Fighting against Kunlavut on his home soil is a crazy experience. I’m very grateful for the experience and for the whole week. I’m happy to be in another final and I’m also disappointed because I feel I had my chances today. But all in all, what an experience.”
