The main draw has kicked off at the TOYOTA Thailand Open 2025, and while qualification day brought no good news for Europe, day two of the Super 500 tournament had a highlight with a big win for Nhat Nguyen.
The qualification rounds on Tuesday saw no European players advance. Today, in one of the first matches, French duo Julien Maio/Lea Palermo, fell to Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu in straight games, 19-21 16-21.
But then came a major win for Nhat Nguyen, who pulled off a great performance against India’s Lakshya Sen. The Irish player secured the win in a three-game battle, 21-18, 9-21, 21-17.

In the evening, Denmark’s Line Christophersen had a tough opener against fifth seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan. After dropping the first game 14-21, Christophersen bounced back to take the second 21-17. However, the Thai player, ranked 26 places higher and playing at home, held her nerve in the decider to win the match after 70 minutes of intense play.
It was another long three-game battle for fellow Dane Rasmus Gemke, who faced Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh. The two had met only once before, with Teh coming out on top, and their latest encounter proved just as tight. But this time, it was Gemke who came out on top. The result was full of contrast. Gemke dominated the first game 21-9, but Teh struck back with a 21-8 win in the second. The decider was far closer, and it was the Danish player who held on to take the win, 21-17.
Tomorrow, in the second round, Gemke will face a tough opponent – third seed Chou Tien Chen. The Chinese Taipei player leads their head-to-head 5–2, but it’s Gemke won their most recent clash.
