The first day of the VICTOR China Open 2025 brought two European wins to start the tournament, while some others fell short in the opening round. But there’s much more to come, with even more Europeans taking to the courts tomorrow, making for an exciting second day.

You can see all of today’s results here.

A few of the Europeans competing in the Super 1000 tournament already played their first matches today. One of the highlights was the men’s singles match between Nhat Nguyen and Rasmus Gemke, with the Irish player defeating the Dane for the first time. With only four spots separating them in the world rankings, the match was bound to be close. Gemke closely took the opening game 22-20, but Nguyen bounced back, taking the second game 21-16 and dominating in the decider, 21-11, to claim a well-fought win.

In men’s doubles, Daniel Lundgaard/Mads Vestergaard are through to the Round of 16. The Danish pair, ranked 26th in the world, faced Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Wang Chi-Lin, ranked just eight spots above. The two pairs had met two months ago, with Chiu/Wang coming out on top in three games. This time, they had another three-game clash, but it was Lundgaard/Vestergaard who came out victorious.

Some other Europeans were in action today but couldn’t make it past the first round. However, many more will be competing tomorrow. You can see the order of play for tomorrow here.
