After an excellent week at the German Open where they stormed into the final to secure silver, Mads Vestergaard/Christine Busch are continuing their strong run, now at the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships.

The Danish pair already had a huge result in the first round, defeating world number three Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi. Today, the challenge was even bigger. They faced world number one pair Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping.

The first game was close with the Danes losing 18-21. Vestergaard/Busch responded well in the second, turning the match around to win 21-18 and force a decider.

The third game was yet another exciting clash, but this time the Danes came out on top. Vestergaard/Busch sealed the victory 21-17 to secure another huge result in Birmingham.

“Really happy. Also a bit shocked, I think. Don't really understand it yet, but yeah, just extremely happy,” Busch said after the match.

After the match, Huang Dong Ping mentioned that the Chinese pair were forced to play the Danes’ game and rhythm. Vestergaard, however, did not feel it that way. “No, I don't feel so. I feel like, especially Huang Dong Ping, she's very difficult to control. We are a little bit afraid to play her at the net most of the match. I definitely don't feel that we were in control.”

Busch also gave her thoughts on the difference in expectations between the two pairs. “We didn't really have expectations to win this one. So, yes, I think there's a lot more pressure on them.”

With wins against the world number three and world number one pairs in the same week, Vestergaard/Busch are clearly ready to do all it takes here in Birmingham.
