Viktor Axelsen has announced that he will not compete in the final World Tour tournaments of the year – Kumamoto Masters Japan 2025 and the SATHIO GROUP Australian Open 2025, both Super 500 events.
The Dane shared the news on social media this morning:
“Hi all. I won't be able to compete in Kumamoto and Australia as originally planned. I am doing everything I can to get my body ready for 2026. Blessed to have good people around me who is supporting me in the best way possible. No stone left unturned. Your support is highly appreciated. See you soon.”
Axelsen, who made his comeback in September after surgery, has shown that he was getting back to form after a challenging recovery period. After some struggles in Hong Kong and China, where he admitted he was not feeling his best, the reigning Olympic champion looked more confident on home soil at the Denmark Open, winning a bronze. He followed that up with a solid run to the quarterfinals at the YONEX French Open 2025.
Thanks to his recent performances, Axelsen is now world number 19 in the rankings. While he won’t return to the court again in 2025, the focus for the Dane is now on training and recovery for a strong comeback in the new year, with a potential return for the Asian leg of the tour in January.
