No Europeans on the podium
Unfortunately, there were no European players standing on the podium at the KFF Singapore Badminton Open 2025. However, it was a close call as Christo Popov and Kim Astrup/Anders Rasmussen both reached the semifinals, taking their matches to three games before being eliminated.
The tournament, however, opened up space for other stars to shine and carve out a place for themselves in already crowded divisions.
Chen Yu Fei wins third tournament in a row
Chen Yu Fei extended her remarkable run by claiming her third consecutive title. Her path to the trophy was anything but easy, she overcame former world champion Pusarla V. Sindhu, the previously undefeated-in-2025 An Se Young, and fellow Chinese players Han Yue and Wang Zhi Yi.
This latest win means Chen Yu Fei is now on a 15-match unbeaten streak, having not lost a single game since the YONEX Swiss Open. She has steadily climbed through the tournament tiers, winning the Swiss Open (Super 300), TOYOTA Thailand Open (Super 500), and now the Singapore Open (Super 750).
“It’s unbelievable. I really didn’t expect things to go so smoothly so soon after coming back. This is a great confidence boost but like I’ve said before, things can’t always go perfectly – I have to be prepared for challenges,” Chen said.
Vitidsarn becomes world number one
World Champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn made headlines once again, this time for climbing to the top of the world rankings, overtaking Shi Yu Qi. The Thai star’s performance in Singapore was a masterclass in composure, poise, and dominance, winning the title without dropping a single game.
A symbolic moment of his calm under pressure came at 10-2 in his match against Lu Guang Zu, when he fended off a rapid attack with a behind-the-back save followed by a relaxed head movement as the shuttle floated long.
“Being the No.1, there will be pressure but that’s good because it gives me added motivation to win the tournaments I take part in,” said Vitidsarn.
“Nowadays, when I go to any tournament, I feel like each place is my home. That’s why I feel I can play a lot better.”
