There are now just two weeks to go until the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2025 begin, and we’re counting down the days to the first matches in Paris.
After previewing the singles confirmed entries last week, it’s now time to take a look at Europe’s doubles pairs.
Men’s doubles
A total of 15 European men’s doubles pairs have confirmed their spot. Leading the group are Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, former world number ones who now sit at number five. The Danish duo were silver medallists at the last World Championships, and bring the experience and hunger for more to go far once again.
Hosts France will be well represented by Christo Popov/Toma Junior Popov, as well as Eloi Adam/Leo Rossi – the first being the European champions, while the latter impressed with a silver medal at the European Championships. Ben Lane/Sean Vendy will also be returning to the courts, with Lane now back after undergoing ankle surgery in June.
Women’s doubles
With 18 European women’s doubles pairs heading to Paris, this discipline brings both experience and exciting young talent. The category has changed, with some top partnerships having retired or reshuffled recently, giving new duos a chance to shine.
Among the established names are the Stoeva sisters and Julie Macpherson/Ciara Torrance, while Polina Buhrova/Yevheniia Kantemyr have become a consistent pairing on the tour, as well as Polina Hankiewicz/Kornelia Marczak.
Margot Lambert/Camille Pognante, a fresh pairing, are one of two French duos in the mix – the other being Tea Margueritte/Flavie Vallet, who also rank higher and will aim for a good result on home soil.
Mixed doubles
In mixed, 16 European pairs are confirmed, with a solid mix of long-time duos and exciting comebacks.
Topping the list are Jesper Toft/Amalie Magelund, followed closely by French favourites Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue, who recently showed their power on the tour with a Super 1000 title at the Indonesia Open in June. Even though the recent tournaments haven’t matched that result, they are still strong medal contenders, especially as they’ll be competing at home.
Also on the list are Alexander Dunn/Julie Macpherson, Callum Hemming/Estelle Van Leeuwen, and Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Bøje. The latter are fresh off a dream comeback. After a year away from the tour, they returned in Macau and won the title. This is the perfect way to gain momentum ahead of Worlds.
