Five different European nations claim gold in Italy

The YONEX Italian Open 2025 took place last week, and we had a diverse set of Europeans claiming the top spots.

It was all Europeans on top of the podium this Sunday, the final day at the International Series tournament in Bolzano, Italy. The fact that it was five different European nations that claimed gold this tournament is something we celebrate as it showcases the wide-ranging talent across European nations in the badminton world.

The nations claiming gold were Türkiye, Denmark, Spain, Bulgaria, and France.

Women’s doubles
Gabriela Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva (Bulgaria) def. Bengisu Ercetin/Nazlican Inci (Türkiye) 21-19 21-14

Men’s doubles
Daniel Franco/Rodrigo Sanjurjo (Spain) def. Oliver Butler/Sam Jones (England) 18-21 21-16 21-19

Women’s singles
Ozge Bayrak (Türkiye) def. Stefani Stoeva (Bulgaria) 21-15 21-19

Mixed doubles
Thibault Gardon/Kathell Desmots-Chacun (France) def. Emre Sonmez/Yasemen Bektas (Türkiye) 18-21 21-10 21-16

Men’s singles
Ditlev Holm (Denmark) def. Ming Hong Lim (Malaysia) 21-13 21-19
