The first matches of the PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2025 main draw have now finished, with most men’s doubles pairs stepping into action today, and it was a good day for many of the Europeans on court.

Daniel Lundgaard/Mads Vestergaard pulled off a huge win over sixth seeds Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yi. Ranked 16 places lower and having lost both of their previous meetings with the Chinese pair (most recently in 2023), the Danes battled through the 1 hour and 18-minute match. They took the first game 27-25, dropped the second 18-21, and held their ground in the decider, winning 21-16 after saving three game points. The unseeded pair now move to the second round to face either Korea’s Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang or France’s Julien Maio/William Villeger in the second round.

Seventh seeds Rasmus Kjær/Frederik Søgaard have also advanced to the next round, marking Søgaard’s return to competition after the injury that forced him out at the European Championships. The Danes faced Ming Che Lu/Tang Kai Wei from Chinese Taipei, a pair they had beaten three times before. They made it four with a strong performance, winning 21-10 21-14. In the next round, they could face either Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing/Aaron Tai or fellow Danes William Kryger Boe/Christian Faust Kjær, both pairs coming through qualification.

Top seeds Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen were also successful, defeating China’s Xie Hao Nan/Zeng Wei Han, 21-10 21-17. They will meet Malaysia’s Low Hang Yee/Ng Eng Cheong in the second round.

France’s Eloi Adam/Leo Rossi were the only European pair to exit in today’s main draw.

More Europeans will be competing tomorrow as the first round continues. Click here to check the full order of play.
